Project 18 is an effort to assist parents in developing long term goals for their children.
Parents are the key sources of positive influence in a child’s life. We, as parents, seek to influence our children in such a way that assures their full development. One part of the parenting strategy is to have a picture of what our children should be when he/she reaches age 18. Beginning with the end in mind will provide a goal for personal development. It is our hope that by the time (my child's name) reaches age 18, he/she will possess the following qualities.
|
SPIRITUAL LIFE
A person who has a sense of inner life and values. He/she has a sense of purpose and meaning in life. He/she has made decisions about values and what is most important and is demonstrating those values in his/her everyday life. He/she has an adult (other than their parents) who has a close relationship with him/her who serves as a spiritual and life mentor.
CHARACTER & MORALITY
A person whose character and morals reflect that of a positive citizen. He/she is loving, kind, honest and respectful. He/she has a positive attitude, a good self-image, is responsible and has a good relationship with his/her parents/guardians. He/she is able to make good decisions by choosing between right and wrong. That ability is reflected in the fact that he/she is sexually pure, drug free, and is without a criminal record.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND SKILLS
A good student who has/will graduate from high school with plans of attending college or other post high school training program or business ownership. He/she is a good reader and can communicate well verbally and in writing.
OTHER
A productive citizen who is/able to be employed. He/she has a good work ethic and is able to lead/work well with others. He/she is a registered voter, a non-smoker and is mentally and physically healthy. He/she is able to manage money responsibly.
At this point, you can add additional qualities that you desire for your child.
